About the role

The Senior Financial Accountant, Financial Reporting sits within the Financial Reporting and Tax team and reports directly to the Manager, Financial Reporting. Based in Australia, this role supports the delivery of external financial and regulatory reporting across multiple accounting frameworks, including US GAAP, IFRS, regulatory reporting across various jurisdictions, and internal economic capital frameworks.

This is a pivotal role within month-end and quarter-end processes, annual statutory reporting, and audit coordination. The position also contributes to tax compliance, technical accounting analysis, and finance transformation initiatives, working closely with stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial, Treasury, Operations, and the broader Group.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

• Prepare and review month-end and quarter-end journals across all relevant accounting bases, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.
• Prepare and oversee monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring the general ledger and interfacing systems are accurately maintained.
• Consolidate financial results and report to Group Finance.
• Support the preparation of annual statutory financial statements, regulatory submissions, and tax returns in line with the December year-end.
• Monitor developments in accounting standards and regulatory requirements, assess impacts, and implement necessary changes.
• Oversee tax-related filings in collaboration with external tax advisors.
• Provide technical accounting advice and support.
• Maintain robust documentation and filing processes.
• Drive process optimisation and technology adoption to improve efficiency.


Audit & Compliance

• Plan and coordinate audit activities to ensure timely and compliant regulatory reporting.
• Liaise with internal and external auditors.
• Maintain and enhance internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and safeguard assets.


Business Support & Projects

• Contribute to finance and back-office transformation initiatives, including system and process improvements.
• Manage and participate in ad-hoc and cross-functional projects.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to align financial processes with organisational objectives.
• Mentor and support junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Skills / Experience required

• Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience in financial reporting, accounting, and analysis.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS and US GAAP.
• Experience in multi-jurisdictional or complex reporting environments (advantageous).
• Exposure to insurance or reinsurance accounting and actuarial concepts is desirable but not essential.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to work across multiple time zones.
• Proactive, adaptable, and confident in taking ownership.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Proficiency with general ledger systems, BI tools, and enterprise finance applications (e.g. SAP AFO, PeopleSoft, Oracle).
